Working With Eating Disorders as Part of a Complex Presentation
Venue: Wings Suite 3 Horsefair Tower, Romsey, Hants,
Date: Next date to be arranged. Email email@example.com if you are interested.
For all health professionals: The day is aimed at understanding and working successfully with eating disorder clients, helping you become more confident with clients who have eating disorder psychopathology together with other presentations i.e drug and alcohol addictions or as part of a borderline personality disorder presentation.
This day builds on a prior workshop ‘De-mystifying Eating Disorders’. If you did not attend that day but are comfortable working with eating disorders, then this event is also for you. It will be a combination of increasing knowledge and experience around this client group through information giving alongside experiential exercises to help you feel and understand what goes on in the room with a client presenting with eating disorder issues as part of more complex psychological issues.
We examine how Anorexia, Bulimia and other variations of Eating Disorders manifest themselves within client presentations which exhibit non-eating disorder psychopathologies. The day will address a range of other self-harming or obsessive behaviours and how these can be contained and worked with within individual therapy alongside resolving the eating disorder issues.
We discuss how this understanding of a complex presentation can be used within therapists’ different therapeutic working models. There is also an explanation of the models recommended within the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines for the Treatment of Eating Disorders.
Your Trainer: Maryanne Steele – Experienced Counsellor, Psychological Therapist and Supervisor in Eating Disorders in the NHS and private practice. Clinical Director of Wings, Counselling Psychotherapy and Well Being Centre and Eating Disorders Clinic.
